Duncan Dance Chicago

Duncan Dance Chicago is Chicago's singular dance organization designed with the authentic legacy of Isadora Duncan's Dance-Art, offering classes, workshops and performances in the technique of Isadora Duncan, the mother of modern dance.  All dance-lovers are welcome to experience learning in a fun, non-competitive, small-group class setting.

2010 Classes

Each class includes a therapeutic warm-up, traditional and contemporary Duncan exercises with barre, across the floor movements, structured improvisation and segments of historical repertory.

Duncan Dance Chicago dancers Jennifer Sprowl and Angela D'Onofrio appeared as special guest artists in a dance presentation of historic Isadora Duncan repertory at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC on Wednesday, Sept. 9th. The program included the premiere of a special new choreography "The Four Sylvan Sounds" inspired by the oil on wood panels by Thomas Wilmer Dewing (1851-1938). Choreography by Valerie Durham in the style of Isadora Duncan to the music of "A Hermit Thrush at Eve" by Amy Beach (1867-1944).

About Jennifer Sprowl

*Jennifer Sprowl is a 4th generation Duncan Dancer who was a founding member of Lori Belilove & Company in New York City, training directly with Duncan Dance luminaries Lori Belilove, Hortense Kooluris and Julia Levien. She has worked with the Rebecca Kelly Dance Company, Bill Evans, Eleanor King and many other modern dance masters. Jennifer is certified as an Active Isolated Stretch practitioner based on the “Wharton” technique and in Shiatsu with the Ohashi Method. As the sole professional Duncan Dancer in the Chicago area, she has mounted several innovative stagings of the Duncan repertory for Momenta Dance in Oakpark, IL, and teaches the Duncan technique in the Chicago area. Her uplifting, holistic approach to dance makes her classes and coaching in the Duncan technique a pure, authentic and powerful experience.
